About Play Mart

Play Mart Company PhotoAmerican Flag RibbonPlay Mart is a woman-owned / family-owned small business manufacturing recycled playground equipment in rural Somerset, Kentucky, providing jobs in our local community while offering "green" products on national and international levels. Our products are 100% made in the USA, and manufactured primarily from 100% recycled materials, averaging 85% recycled content per structure, by weight.

Safety and Accessibility:

We take our responsibility as a playground equipment manufacturer very seriously, realizing the importance of safety above all else. That's why we make sure that we adhere to all safety guidelines and IPEMA product testing.

IPEMA: Play Mart has commercial playground equipment products validated for conformance to ASTM F1487. In the interest of playground safety, the International Play Equipment Manufacturers Association (IPEMA) provides a Third Party Certification Service whereby a designated independent laboratory, Detroit Testing Laboratory, Inc., (DTL), validates an equipment manufacturer’s certification of conformance to ASTM F1487, Standard Consumer Safety Performance Specification for Playground Equipment for Public Use, except sections 7.1.1, 10 and 12.6.1; to CAN/CSA Z614, Children’s Playspaces and Equipment, except clauses 9.8, 10 & 11; or both. The use of the corresponding logo in Play Mart, Inc.'s website signifies that Play Mart, Inc. has received written validation from the independent laboratory that the product(s) associated with the use of the logo conforms to the requirements of the indicated standard. Check the IPEMA website (www.ipema.org) to confirm product validation.

CPSC: Play Mart products and designs meet or exceed the current CPSC (Consumer Products Safety Commission) Guidelines for playground equipment.

ASTM: Play Mart products and designs meet or exceed the current American Society of Testing and Materials Standards: F-1487

A large part of safety hazards originate with the surfacing beneath the play equipment. For that reason, we only suggest or offer surfaces that comply with the current CPSC recommendations, current ASTM F1951 Standard for ADA accessible surface material and the current ASTM 1292 Standard for impact attenuation.

ADAAG_compliantADA Accessibility Guidelines: ADA Driving Panel & Talk Tube ComboAt Play Mart, we endeavor to make our play areas inviting and friendly community environments to people of all abilities. Towards that end, we have designed our playsets to provide access to play components by transfer stations, ramps, and accessible surfacing routes according to the Americans with Disabilities Act Accessibility Guidelines (ADAAG). We have also designed play components specifically for wheelchair bound children, such as our ADA Driving Panel & Talk Tube Combo (at right). Read more about Play Mart and ADA Accessibility.

Rebecca_Beach_imageWoman Owned Small Business:

Majority stock-holder, Rebecca Beach operates as Play Mart, Inc.'s Chief Financial Officer, Board of Directors Vice-President, and company owner. Her passion for child development, nature and health impact not only the vision of Play Mart, but also the lives of Play Mart employees and her family. Employees benefit from her knowledge of healthy lifestyle habits through personal advice as well as regular company-wide educational handouts. Years of experience in the educational field give her extensive knowledge of child development. Rebecca and Dennis met while working at the (then named) Game, Fish and Parks Department in Denver, Colorado in 1971. This genuine "flower-children"-turned-entrepreneur couple's congenital respect for nature, and its Creator, finds partial expression through manufacturing a product with minimal impact on the environment. Weekends find them exploring Kentucky's vast natural beauty or getting dirt under their nails nurturing their own green, flowering landscapes.

Family Business:

Beach_Family_imageYears ago, Dennis and Rebecca Beach slept on a pull-out couch while their five children bunked in "cozy" quarters elsewhere in their two-bedroom trailer. The rolling hills and creeks of Woodstock, Kentucky had become home to the Beach family after migrating from zero-population growth Boulder, Colorado in 1978. Dennis's Landscape Architect degree and construction experience afforded him opportunities in a variety of carpentry odd-jobs. When a local PTA requested he build a playground, he undertook the project with characteristic energy and innovation. 27 years later, five out of the seven Beach family members manage the day-to-day operations of the company. All seven remain active board members, directing the mission, vision and heart of this unique, family-owned and operated company. Read the full bio here: (pdf) (html).
