Green Building Standards

What are the standards?

There is a growing demand for environmentally conscious building standards. None of these standards and rating systems certify individual products or manufacturers. However, Play Mart playground equipment can contribute towards overall points in many of these rating systems. See our contribution information in the PDF's linked below each rating system description.

• LEED: The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED)Green Building Rating System™ is a third-party certification program and the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction and operation of high performance green buildings. LEED provides building owners and operators with the tools they need to have an immediate and measurable impact on their buildings’ performance. It certifies that a building project is environmentally responsible, profitable and a healthy place to live and work.

• NAHB Standards

  The National Green Building Standard, developed by the National Association of Home Builders, provides criteria for rating the environmental impact of construction practices to achieve conformance with specified performance levels for green residential buildings.  It establishes practices for the design and construction of green residential buildings and is intended to provide flexibility to permit the use of innovative approaches and techniques.

• CHPS

  The Collaborative for High Performance Schools facilitates the design, construction and operation of high performance schools: environments that are not only energy and resource efficient, but also healthy, comfortable, well lit, and containing the amenities for a quality education. CHPS oversees the nation’s first green building rating program especially designed for K-12 schools. Schools can self-certify their school through the free CHPS Designed program, or seek third-party verification of their high performance school through the CHPS Verified program.
